The Lightbulb Company is committed to encouraging energy efficiency through the use of low energy / energy saving light bulbs. Energy saving light bulbs are often called CFLs which stands for compact flourescent lighting.

In the Home, if every UK household installed three compact fluorescent light bulbs, enough energy would be saved in a year to supply all street lighting. Or another way of looking at the potential savings is that if every household in the UK fitted just one energy saving light bulb, enough electricity would be saved to power lighting in 3 million homes for a year!

For the World, Greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide, a by-product of all types of energy consumption are main contributors to global warming. More efficient use of energy helps to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and the effects of climate change and damage to the environment. Carbon dioxide (CO2) is a by-product of our use of energy, and therefore by cutting energy consumption we automatically reduce total CO2 emissions.

For the UK, The UK has committed to reducing CO2 emissions through the Kyoto agreement. Business and the working environment accounts for a large proportion of the UK's energy consumption, and therefore its CO2 emissions. For the UK to meet its share of the global emissions targets, businesses and the public sector must make energy efficiency a priority.

Low energy / energy saving light bulbs

Lighting costs in domestic environments can account for 10% to 15% of the household electricity bill.

By changing to low energy / energy saving light bulbs savings of up to $10 per year per light bulb can be achieved and although low energy / energy saving light bulbs cost more than conventional light bulbs they can save up to 10 times the cost of the lamp over its lifetime.

Please note, however, that these light bulbs do not work with electronic sensors or timers.

These light bulbs are most efficient in areas where lighting is left on for lengthy periods – such as hallways and staircases. They can also be used in garden, parking and other areas where security lighting is important.

Low energy / energy saving light bulbs come in standard bayonet and screw fittings so replacement of existing lamps is straightforward and because energy use is so much less than that of conventional light bulbs, low energy light bulbs come in lower wattages

A normal light bulb is only economic if the average time it is used is less than 15 minutes at a time and it is not used more than 1.5 hours a day.
- Replace the normal light bulb by an energy saving light bulb with better light and less energy consumption. It's worthwhile doing that in all the places where light is needed constantly (e.g. in the sitting room, in the kitchen, at the working place, in the children's room).

Energy saving light bulbs use 80% less energy and last 10 times longer than a normal light bulb. And that actually means that you  save a lot of money by using energy saving light bulbs.
