Night Lights for your Little Ones

Night Lights for your Little Ones

Creating a restful space for your children is essential to help them get that precious sleep. The right night light can feel reassuring for little ones, especially if they’ve started thinking about that monster under the bed! A fear of the dark is very common in young children and night lights of all different types and varieties have been used for decades. That being said, night lights have come a long way in the last 20 years. Many include additional features and are not solely a night light. They may also serve as an alarm or a sound machine.

Finding a fun night light in a shape and style that your child will love will make them see their bedroom as a more secure space.

Breastfeeding?

To avoid knocking into furniture or putting on the full ceiling lights (which may make it harder to get baby used to differentiating day and night), a night light is the perfect companion for those long nights. We recommend keeping the lighting as dim as possible for night feeds and turning off completely once you’ve left the room.

Do kids need night lights?

In reality kids do not need a night light but many children do develop a fear of the dark which can definitely be soothed by a night light. For older children, night lights can be great to accompany story time before bed to create a darker and relaxing environment in which reading is still possible.

What type of night light should you choose?

Fun

To really make the most of the night light, you’ll want it to feel like a toy or at the very least something exciting to add to your child’s bedtime routine. This can be achieved with recognisable characters or their favourite animals. We also love galaxy projections for that extra special touch.

Dim

To avoid disrupting your child’s sleep and circadian rhythm, pick a night light that is dim. There is no need for a bright one as their eyes will adjust anyway.  You can check the lumen levels in the product description to see what level of brightness the night light creates.

Flexible (sound features, varying light colours, timers, portable)

Once your child has fallen asleep, it’s tempting to move the night light further away to encourage deeper sleep. A battery operated night light works perfectly for this as it’s completely movable and not restricted to your wall socket location. We also love timers for that extra convenience.
